Therapy with Tweens & Teens

tween therapy

I provide therapy for tweens and teens who struggle with anxiety, intense emotions, and/or substance use. The youth I work with do not necessarily enter therapy convinced that treatment will be helpful; however, they are interested in making changes and trying new things to manage their mental health. Following an initial evaluation during which I will meet with parents and youth separately, I typically see clients for one 45-minute session per week. I meet with parents approximately once per month to get their perspectives on progress and continued concerns. Adolescents are entitled to confidentiality, thus I will not share excessive detail about weekly sessions with parents. Exceptions to this practice include alerting parents to life-threatening behaviors or concerns.

Many clients and their parents are curious to know how long they can expect to be in therapy. The answer to this question depends on therapeutic goals. I have worked with clients anywhere from 16 weeks to several years.
