Therapy with Parents
I aim to support parents in parenting when they feel they have tried everything and do not know what to do next. The parents I work with love their children and want the best for them, and are often burned out from worrying about their children, frequent emotional outbursts, and/or moving mountains to help their children avoid the things that scare them. In our work together, parents learn concrete steps to help reduce their child’s distress and improve the parent-child relationship. Learn more about me and how I work to see if my approach to therapy sounds like a good fit.
Common areas of focus for parent therapy include:
Setting and maintaining reasonable expectations for your child.
Maintaining consistent limits and consequences with your child.
Building a meaningful relationship with your child.
For parents primarily concerned about their child’s substance use or other addictive behaviors, I offer CRAFT therapy.
Following an initial evaluation, I typically see parents for one 60-minute session per week. The length of the therapy relationship will depend on therapeutic goals. I have seen parents anywhere from 12 weeks to several years.
